The date of February 14 as the annual celebration of love appears for the first time in the Charter of the Court of Love from 1400. This charter was allegedly issued by Charles VI the Mad himself, king of France in the years 1380-1422.
On this day, there were to be lavish celebrations with the participation of several members of the royal court and a feast during which love song and poetry competitions, jousts and dances were organized. Historians are not sure whether this is not a figment of the imagination of some medieval author, but the fact is that he must have been aware
that Valentine's Day is a celebration of love.
